No one ever said you couldn't build a small fenced-in area (even within a fenced area) and plant your favorites and a lounge chair and commune with nature or fall asleep or relax.

I built a shed in my backyard as a workshop, but situated it in a way to give me privacy behind a small gate. At my old house, I had a lovely shade garden that was secluded and away from the house.

If you really want it, make it happen. You will thank youself.

A secret garden sounds so nice. Wherever you make yours, be sure to include some comfy seating for the days you may want to relax with a good book or a cup of tea. Shade would also be nice for those warm days in summer. And how about a bird feeder or even a bird house? Wishing you well.

I don't really have a secret garden, but I have created my own jungles at the front of the house, by the garage, and my veggie garden up on top of the two steep hilled tiers in the back yard. I retreat to any one of the three areas to just sit and look at all the plants that are in my little jungles, each being different. If I really need to get away, I go up to the veggie garden where I know no one else will show up except the dogs guarding the gate and I play in the dirt doing little stuff to just relax.

You could use old shutters to form a border and then fill in with plants and statues

Do it. if you have the place, start with a place to sit or recline (hammock?) and something to set a drink on. Then, lay there and dream about what you want in your garden.
