Hello. If the ceiling is drywall you will want to chip away any drywall that is cracking or loose. Then use joint compound and fill in the crack. Let it dry, and then sand it so it blends in. You may need to do a few coats so it blends well. Last prime and then paint. If it is a wide crack you may need to use drywall tape before you put the compound on. I recommend wearing eye protection and a face mask.
