I pulled the plug and it de-iced. Is there a way that I can get it to work or do I need to buy a new one?

    It's probably a gonner.

Warm up the area that it is working in...like a portable heater. The unit is probably working well but it pulls the water out of the air by cooling the coils of the dehumidifier. (kinda like water on the outside of a glass of ice water on a hot day) If the room is already cold and the dehumidifier needs to get the coils colder to pull the water out of the air...it usually freezes. If you warm up the room to 68 the humidifier should be fine

Check to be sure your dehumidifier has been recalled (Google "recalled dehumidifiers)! We had two (Norpole brand) that had been recalled and we were able to recoup the costs. There were many recalled at the time as ours, all different brands, for different reasons. We were unable to fix ours (that's why I looked on line. I just had to read the numbers off of the machines, and send the cut off plugs. Did you buy a warranty for the dehumidifier? If so, that doesn't kick in until the manufacturer's warranty expires, so you may still have time. Too expensive to walk away without being sure!
