Braided rugs are extremely fun to have, especially when you can brag about how you made them yourself! What I loved even more is that you can make use of any scrap fabrics (jeans in my case) and save more space in your closet.
Short history of this braided rug: Whoever knows me well will surely tell you I always dreamed of having a family of my own, but also knows I had no talents whatsoever, not any that we knew of. It is funny how people change when they enter marriage and the crazy things they do! Why am I saying this? I didn't consider myself handy enough, but when I got engaged, I started dreaming of having this pinteresty type of home, where everything is DIY, vintage and made with lots of love. Here is how knitting blankets and making braided rugs started. And here is how you can get started with yours. :)

You can add with time more and more and make your rug bigger and bigger. I am still finishing off mine!
Cut the legs of old jeans
Remove the seams
Measure the pieces with a ruler, try to make them as equal as possible
Get as many fabric strips as possible
Start Sewing the pieces
Start braiding. You can use bias strip makes (found in most fabric stores). It will make it easier, but it is not necessary.
Stitch the braids together

Have been making braided rugs from t-shirts for awhile. How do I get them to stop curving up as I sew????

I have NEVER made one, but I have one my Grandma- in- law, made with material....she used OLD nylon hose and string and crocheted........IT is still displayed after 50 yrs. of marriage. She was of Hungarian and Romania......poor when they got off the boat in America. She loved this country....she totally felt wealthy. They were poor. She was happy.

My Grandma and Grandpa came here in 1930 from Poland and Russia (respectively). They both LOVED this country too!! She knitted, crocheted, and hand sewed EVERYTHING.

They both worked multiple jobs to make ends meet with 3 children, learned how to read, write and speak English too!!

In 1935, both became American citizens. They told everyone they knew!!! They were definitely proud to be American!!

My Grandma, is now almost 101 in July , made braided rugs from old wool garments that she had and were out of style. She made little ones for in front of the sink or door and huge room sizes too - this is such an art and mine are about 35 years old and still beautiful 😍 Just clean up any spots right away and now with Dawn Powerwash --- you should have NO spots anywhere !!!
