Halloween is the one time of year that you can bring your imagination and wildest dreams to life. Each year for Halloween, I love to try new and exciting themes for our mantel. This year pirates seemed like a unique way to bring fantasy and legend to my living room. When done right, a Halloween pirate theme can be a unique and spooky way to decorate your home!

Pirate theme supplies:
Skeletons (body parts and whole bodies)
Pirate clothing
Trunk or treasure box
Parrot
Animal skeletons
Pirate flag
Pirate map
Treasure
Lantern
Sheets or other spooky material

While I got most of my supplies at thrift stores and the dollar store, I did buy a life-size skeleton at Lowes for $30. I think he makes the whole room and I am excited to use him for years to come!

How to create the look:
Begin by envisioning where you would like to put the main pieces. For me, I had the main skeleton and the treasure trunk. I decided to place the skeleton on the mantel and the trunk by a window.

Place your main pieces and then add the smaller pieces around in places that look good and accent the main pieces. Next to the skeleton, I added a lantern, a small treasure box with a parrot and some small skeleton pieces around.

Next, decorate the walls. We found a spooky pirate flag and fish net to add to the background. I also got a removable pirate decal and some removable spider stickers to place around the room.

Make sure to dress the skeleton in pirate clothes. We got a bandana, vest and eyepatch at the dollar store. I also added a black crow in to his shoulder.

The treasure box was filled up first with pillows and then a gold fabric and black spooky fabric on top of that. I added some gold founds and treasure and a skull to the mix.

Putting the whole room together was really quick and easy. I think the most time-consuming part was searching for the pieces to put in the room. Once we acquired enough skeletons and discovered the dollar store pirate stash, everything came together.

Here are a few more things that you could add:
Spooky table cloths, heads in jars, sheets covering furniture, colored lighting, a compass, decanters, goblets, anchors, ship wheels and other nautical items.
