Hello. Mix red hot pepper flakes with water and spray the deck rails. They hate pepper flakes.

Will the inexpensive dried pepper flakes that you can buy at the dollar store in the spice isle work for this?

I'd paint with a solution of powdered red pepper flakes and dish soap - just enough to make it 'stick' to the wood

There are sprays that deter horses from cribbing. I think it might work with squirrels as well as horses.

May or may not work but try putting hot sauce on the rails.

Make a spray of 12 or 16 ounces of water and 1 bottle of Oil of Clove or Clove Oil (same thing), about $2.00 for a little bottle. Spray whatever is being eaten and it should work. The oil is in the area of the store where candy making supplies are. And, the area will smell wonderful!

Yes it will. That is what I buy too. Good Luck!
