It's a dark green that doesn't go with anything else in the house. It's hard to tell in the picture, but it's a marbled green color. I'm not sure what you do when g... See more
Shelves or a cabinet. Just to the right, I would also add a tall bookcase or more shelving. What all do you need to store? We might be able to make better suggestions.
Is storage your need? Or do you need more desktop? You might benefit from a hutch style desk that can be closed up when not in use. Here's one I found on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Buena-Vista-Shaped-Madison-Cherry/dp/B00JZQIMKU/ref=sr_1_37?ie=UTF8&qid=1507909712&sr=8-37&keywords=desk+armoire+with+hutch
We used a workstation from IKEA in their KALLAX line. The nice thing is there are accessories for the cubbys that let you put in drawers, doors, or baskets/bins. that will hide the mess. There are also other sizes and arrangements of the system of cubbys and I do believe that some of the smaller arrangements can be wall hung using a special rail bracket system.. a very versatile system and not too expensive.
Note: I used 2 of the door systems and adapted the top 2 cubbys to hold my small-ish printer by removing the divider.
You could place one along the short wall and give some separation from the rest of the living room.. without totally cutting it off.
Personally I like shelves with everything organized in bins, hanging wire baskets are nice too
I would put up two or three 2x6's evenly spaced above the desk the the whole width of the space, and stain then a dark mahogany. You can get then cut to size if needed at most home improvement stores. You could put baskets above to store items and you could go with the colors of u our living room.
I recently convert a bedroom into an office. I build shelvings and worspaces for my husband and I. Still missing the doors on the middle section.
I choose white laminate bcz it's cheap, solid and easy to clean, also put pegborad over each of our desk.
I think you need to make a list of what you want to do in the space, what you'll be needing to work, and then organize it for your own needs!
Best of luck!
I would paint out the back wall a different or bright colour (or wood) and add contrasting shelves.
