Do I have to cover or take a Chicago Fig Tree Indoors in the winter?

I live in the Denver Metro Area. My daughter gave me a Chicago Fig Tree for Mother's Day (I am a Chicago native). I planted it in a large pot and put it on my patio. Three tiny figs have appeared. My neighbor said I have to take it inside. The pot is so large that I did not plan to move it other than turn it around for the sun. Should I cover it or take it inside?
