you are going to need a room that's at least 60 degrees f 70 would be better. Start your seeds a good 4 to 6 weeks before the last average frost date for your area. Now if you want tomatoes as plants and to harvest the fruits this winter....do The cherry types. Lemon drop is a favorite of mine. You may need to supliment light. 6 to 8 hours under full spectrum light bulbs. They may also be called a daylight bulb. Also buy the light bulbs by lumnens not watts. The more leumens the better.

Definitely go with the light, you will need it to have a healthy plant and not a spindly one. Once fruit starts to set, get a spray calcium supplement from your local florist store or green house. Use it as directed to prevent blossom end rot as it is very common in potted tomatoes. Fertilize with a tomato and vegetable fertilizer as directed, potted veggies use up the nutrients in the soil quickly. Water as needed due to lass humidity in the house than if it was outside. Just be careful, it will wilt if not watered enough and may wilt if watered too much, so make sure the soil and pot drain well. Good luck and hope you get a bumper crop. Make sure to support the plant and have a really large pot.

If you keep your house at around 68-70 degrees, you should be able to follow the above directions and it'll be fine!
