NO. Moldy food can actually kill the birds. Just throw out the food in the trash.

Bread is not a particularly nutritional food for birds, and moldy bread and grains can be very harmful to birds, causing aspergillosis. In addition, chocolate is harmful to birds (and dogs and cats).

Be careful what other scraps you put out--you are might end up attracting rodents. Raccoons are very agressive, too, and have been known to move into attics and crawl spaces, so you don't want to encourage them. They can carry a variety of diseases, including rabies.

I like to put out those prepared seed foods (shaped like a wreath, or a bell) for birds, or suet cakes in the winter. The seed items come with a little hook you can tie to a string and a tree branch. For the suet cakes, you can get a neat little square cage to hang on a tree branch for about $2. You just refill it when the cake is gone, and hang it back up. I would wash it at the end of the season, to kill any bacteria.

Bread should never be fed to birds or fowl, like ducks, etc. They cannot digest the flour, even tho it's made from grain. This includes crackers, cookies, anything made with flour or starch. The paste sits in their crop and can form a concrete-like mass that blocks their digestion, leading to pain and death. If you want to feed the birds, get them birdseed or dried mealworms.
