Has anyone seen liquid pods?

I found some liquid pods in a plastic pitcher, under my kitchen sink. I don't know how long they have been there. They are dark in color, black or green, with sparkles. We have a water filtration system in our home, however I don't ever remembering anyone giving us those. There is a caution warning on the sealed bag, to keep out of the reach of children, but no explanation as to what this product is.

Thank You for your replies

"Laundry detergent has had some changes throughout the years, from bar soap, to powder, to liquid and now to gel packages. Tide Pods are a pre-measured amount of laundry detergent, stain booster, and brightener wrapped up in a gel pack that is designed to dissolve in the load of laundry."

PS Tide is not the only brand or company to make gel/liquid laundry soap pods.

There are gel packs for dishwashers too, but I’ve never seen anything like this. Are you sure they are gel pacs? If your house has a septic tank they do make enzime pacs to flush down the toilet.

Gee, the photo is quite blurred, and the red background kind of changes the color of the pacs. In your first post you said that you thought the color to be a dark black/ green? I know that I have seen at least three brands of laundry soap that are very dark blue/black- All, Purex, and Kirkland. I do not recall ever seeing any dishwasher soap pacs such a dark color,(which would at first make sense, as you found them in the kitchen under the sink.)

If the pacs are unused for a long time and are exposed to changes in temperature, they can get discolored, dry out, become crystallized, and the plastic wrapping can also become cloudy.

Unless other Hometalkers can say a more definitive answer, I would say that what you have is laundry detergent.

Just after I clicked send on the above answer, I went back to your picture, and what lead me to think that I was wrong in saying laundry detergent, is the plastic bag with the seam down the back that the pacs are in, and that you found them under the kitchen sink.

This size and crinkly-sounding plastic bag, inside a cardboard box, is the format of how I remember dishwasher pacs were sold a few years back. I don't ever remember buying laundry soap pacs being subpackaged in these plastic bags.

I got sleuthing, and sure enough, I did find Finish dishwasher gel pacs. Finish first made these in blue color, although they have been discontinued now due to marketing of Finish in orange or lemon gel pacs. The packaging as well of the box has also been changed.

Below are two pictures I have found of the older style of Finish blue gelpacs, and another picture of the gelpacs that have not been stored properly. They are discoloured, and have started to crystalize due to losing moisture, mainly because they are old. Is this the sparkle you referred to? (for Sparkling clean dishes!)

So, my revised answer is what you have is Dishwasher soap.

Even though they are older, they are still safe to use in a regular dishwasher, just like any other dishwasher soap.
