Looking for a super affordable and pretty side table for your living room or bedroom?? I’ve got the DIY Side Table for you!

The idea for this pretty little DIY Side Table came from a woodworking challenge on Instagram. The IG Builders Challenge account on Instagram hosts 2 or 3 woodworking challenges a year and I love it! The first day of the challenge always starts with the release of building plans for a random piece of furniture. You never know what you’ll be building until that day. Then each participant modifies the plans to show off their skills and creativity. Fun, right.

You can click through to my site to find out more about the original challenge plans and this build.

The wood cut for 2 tables. You only need half of this for one table.

I used my Miter Saw and a Tapered Leg Jig with my Table Saw to make these cuts.

For a new woodworker, you can skip tapering the legs with a table saw and jig and just go for a straight leg. :)

I used pocket holes for the screws. Using a Kreg Jig makes these builds much quicker. Clamps hold the pieces in place while screwing together. Be sure to use wood glue too.

Once the frame is assembled. 3/4" Plywood is cut for the top and middle shelf. Use wood filler on the pocket holes and cracks around the middle shelf.

Sand with 120-grit sandpaper after it has dried. Then prime the wood with something like Kilz or Zinsser 123 and paint.

Painting by window light here. This table was actually built during Hurricane Harvey, so we didn't have power at this point.

The finished table is a fun pop of color in our guest room.

Simple bed side or living room tables on a budget!

Update 2019: I've changed the paint color and added a new color block top. You can nor grab printable build plans for this table on my DIY Side Table tutorial.
