I removed our king size bed and adjusted the 2 hospital beds to our liking and unplugged them. Add bed skirts, make end covers for head and foot, throw pillows. And your personal bed set. A twin size mattress fits well. I love the extra space in our bedroom. Let your imagination GO!! Good luck. Hope this helps.
The biggest improvement would be to hide "the uglies" - the metal surround, etc. I would do this by making a bed skirt that hangs from the mattress base and have it drape to the floor. If you can't add a headboard to the frame, then attach a fake headboard to the wall and move the bed underneath it. Then add a few pillows to make it look less "institutional".
