I've heard that adding salt to the washer and allowing the garment to soak will work. Use cold water too. This helps lock in the dye. (And following Korky's thot: don't put the salt directly on the bleeding robe. It will sting! And then you'll have a crying, bleeding robe.)
I'd wash it separately adding a cup of white vinegar to the cycle. Rinse in cold water adding a 1/4 cup of salt. Repeat the wash cycle if needed. Best of luck.
Wash it alone in cold water to which you have added some distilled vinegar (I would say 1/2 a cup should work). I did this for a red flannel shirt and it kept the red bright for many years and also stopped its bleeding.
Add one 1/4 cup table salt and one cup vinegar per gallon of cool, clean water. The vinegar and salt work together to naturally lock the colour into the fabric.

Then wash it in cold water and if you aren't worried about it shrinking, dry it as hot as you can. It may not completely solve the problem but it should. We did this with Madras in the 60's.
Red pigments that are dyes are unstable. If your fabric is a french terry or cotton blend it will likely keep losing pigment in the wash.
Somethings that can help set dyes are: washing until the dye stops coming out; setting the dye with salt and or vinegar and cold water AND making sure the water runs clear and drying on a very hot temperature.
Dyes should be set in the manufacturing process, but the quality control can be iffy- especially with reds.
Yes my mother taught me about the vinegar. When I have some thing large I fill my washing machine with cold water and then add the vinegar. I have top load washer so if I leave the top up everything just sits. I would then wash as well in cold water again, watch what the water looks like, if its still red do it again. I have done this with other fabric items.

I wash my dark pants in cold water with regular detergent and a fairly new washing machine (about 1 year old) and the pants come out with white streaks

Soaking in salt water is supposed to set the color.
Don't wash it in cold water, only very cold. The problem is that the fabric was not finished properly, the right chemicals were not used.
I made a mistake, don't wash in HOT water only cold.
