From what I understand, peonies need ants in order to bloom. Which is why I always plant my peony bushes a distance from my house.

I know that, but apparently the previous homeowner didn't have a clue! We just bought the house in the last 6 mos. I guarantee ther will be no peonies next season!

You can use either chili powder or 20 mule team borax. Either one works great.

Use these on the outside, and where exactly; around the foundation? How often do you reapply?

I use it around the foundation and around any plant that has ants and even some other bugs. I reapply if it rains and washes it away or else I start with once a week for a month and then every other week for two months and then once a month or longer there after. Some places you never have to reapply at all.

You need ants in your peony. Without the ants they will not bloom.

  • packaged cornbread mix that says it is sweetened and put it where they are coming in if you can find it, or even on your counter in a small lid. They will take it to the mound, everyone will eat it and die, they can't digest the cornmeal, but will take it because it is sweetened. Little goes a long way.
