Help with Boring Living room

Paint the wall a color. Not a brown or tan.

Walls a deep gray-blue or green, curtains white. Add a large throw on couch &/or chair that has a little of wall &/or curtain color. Or, creamy white walls with white curtains, large throws or pillows in textured white or a color you like. A chunky dark wood coffee table, patterned rug & some large artworks to balance the size of the furniture. Too many small accessories would look like clutter - keep it big & simple.

I find the best rooms are a combination of warm and cool colours. Medium grey (true grey, not blue grey) walls, I would remove the desk in front of the window. Add a black curtain rod to blend in with the wood stove and your table lights. Next step would be to accessories in what ever colour you like. Since everything else is neutral you can't go wrong. Some art work, throw, pillows and curtains. matching end tables would help balance the room. last thing would be to add some type of coffee table. A lot of different types would work as long as you keep the scale the same. Have fun with different prints of material but make sure they all, as they say talk to each other.

Walls need art.

Do it your way........just blend ALL your colors and it will look like YOU. I do believe you need some bright color of your choice. Think outside the box. Good Luck!!

Is that a working woodstove if it is and you plan on using it you will need some kind of hearth under it. The woodstove may dry out that desk or any other wood furniture. As to how to decorate you just moved in get to know your house first decorating will come to you later and that's OK.

your current furniture and rugs are very neutral so....almost anything goes! What is your favourite colour combination? Do you like earth tones (then you can do greens, browns, orange, orange-red). Navy blue would also look nice. My suggestion is to look for a piece of artwork that has a colour combination (or a piece of fabric) that appeals to you and incorporates the tan of your furniture, then use that as your template for the colours you will choose for wall(s) and drapes.

Depends upon how you paint the walls, if you do cream on the walls, I would do a hunter green or sage green for the curtains. If you do a sage green on the wall, I would look at cream curtains with a hint of matching green in the pattern

For example, the cost of a full color consult with plan will cost you less than the price of two gallons of paint the wrong color. Many of us do this work online, too.

Ok 1st walk through your home and pick up three things you love. What color and texture is it. Example you have flowers on the pillow and on side table. If they are used all year use those colors on any art/decoration you buy. The dark metal stove does lend itself to that being any metal rods. Yes move desk its wood. If you need something there metal or block/stone. Your art should show things you like. Good luck dress it slowly.

I agree with Cykrezren about the texture being important in your decorating. The five senses naturally make us responsive to texture and visually stimulated by color. You might try painting the wall behind your sofa a different color and even adding in some plaster to get a little bit of texture in with your paint. You could then use that color to work into your decor as a valance or curtain, to pillows or even the lamp shade. I've always found that the small details make a big impact when decorating. Just remember your home is where you want to be relaxed and refreshed.

I would personally paint the wall behind your sofa a deep red-not the whole room-one accent wall. I would then get curtains that have tan and reds in them-maybe some dark brown in them too. Patterned curtains will jazz up the color against your lighter walls, pull in the red wall and stove (if you get dark browns and reds in curtains). Then I'd buy a deep red throw for the sofa. Your throw pillow started the inspiration. Maybe then also get another throw pillow (like that pale green) to go by the one you have. With these colors, your light rug will go well and your room will no longer be boring. Also, as an fyi if you haven't shopped on wayfair.com, they have great prices on everything-and I've gotten great deals on area rugs there.

Hang pictures for cryin' out loud! That bare expanse of wall is blinding! We keep our interior painted white, so that we can hang pictures without clashing with wallpaper or colored walls.

I like the wall color as is, it really looks nice with the wood floors. Get a new area rug with a design and some nice colors in the pattern to brighten up the whole room. I would not paint any wall but instead use art to bring color into the room. Keeping similar colors or colors that compliment each other. Your furniture is mixed modern (sofa) and vintage (desk). Don't go too formal in your decor, but don't go old school country.

I would put the lamp on the desk, on the table by sofa for balance. You only need one floral arrangement, so choose the one you like the most and move the other to another room. I would move the desk to the wall opposite the sofa if you can. Then move the chair over, so it sits more so in front of the left side window, not covering it up, not against it, then maybe angle it just a little but more lined up with sofa. If you cant move desk to other wall try moving your chair more to the center of window,and move sofa down more away from window, then you might be able to corner your desk, get a chair that can fit under it. Then you could put a lamp back on the desk. It would be good to see the view of the entry into the space in your photos.

Furniture ain't placed right to begin with.. too much tan and black.. replace carpet with a color other than tan.. pick fall colors since tan is a major color..

I would paint 3 of the walls one of the lighter colors in your gorgeous accent pillow and the "focus wall" that bright, burnt orange from that pillow. What a great color scheme in that pillow alone!
