    My mom made one using a Christmas tree shaped Styrofoam and used the small pine cones. She used picks attached to the end with wire. It lasted for years, I still have it. She also did one for a friend that was from a Styrofoam slab that my dad cut to the outline of a Christmas tree the same way and put a big red bow on the bottom

    We have made them also, but I use the cheaper brown colored caulk on the cone shaped cones. Start at the bottom, squirt some caulk on apply the cones and work your way up. Give the tree a good 24 hrs before picking it up. The brown caulk smeared all over will hide the green or white cone from showing through the cracks. Caulk on the lower levels usually cost less than 2.00
