Use a sponge mop or a long handled paint roller with a new roller to dip into vinegar to clean the ceiling. If you have a really tall peaked ceiling, consider hiring a pro, or have lots of help with safety as a focus. If you have popcorn or other texture with peaks, you can still use vinegar and a roller, but put down drop cloths because the texturing may crumble and fall off.
