Why is my painted furniture still tacky?

I painted a coffee table recently and the top is still tacky. The original piece was off-white finish. I sanded it, used a primer, then applied 2 coats of white satin paint. I let the first coat dry for more than 24 hours before the second. If I set anything on it, you can feel that slight tackiness when you lift the object up. What can I do to fix this?

Leave it to Cure. Until smell and tackyness has gone.........
if your bath has a heater in it, and is big enough for the coffee table, try truning on the heat for half an hour.. if you painted in a humid area it can be tacky for a while. the other reason might be that the paint wasn't fully mixed, that too can cause some sticky ness.
Thanks, Dfm. I do live in a very humid area (So FL), but the A/C was on the days we painted, and the last 2 days have been breezy & lower H, so the windows & doors are open. The paint was brand new & shaken at the store, and stirred before painting.
What kind of paint did you use? If you used house/wall paint, that would be your problem. Its not made for projects like furniture.
It is wall paint, and the sales person told me it would be fine to use on the furniture - guess she was wrong! What do I do now?
Rust-Oleum makes a can of paint for a multitude of materials that you can have tinted. Spray paint, or chalk paint. I don't know why it is, but regular wall paint never dries right on furniture. I once bought a side table from a lady I knew, she used a pistachio green wall paint she had left over from a feature wall she did. I had the table 3 years before I redid it, it always had that tacky feel to it
A very late follow-up, just to finish the thread. A finish carpenter friend advised us to spray the entire table top with a lacquer. Worked like a charm, and the tabletop is no longer tacky. The spray lacquer wasn't even too smelly.
