How to make my mattress cover smaller

I do not have an over-thick mattress and have no intention of buying one. Yet, I can no longer obtain sheets, mattress, pads, etc., made to fit my older-but-still-comfortable mattress. All of them bunch up into uncomfortable wads during the night. How can I make a mattress pad/cover smaller so that it won't create those long, ropey wads during the night?

Just buy Flat Sheets, then you will have no problems.

  • While on the bed I would fold over and pin both length and width to make it more snug. Then sew some seams. I would place the lengthwise seem in the middle and the seam for the width at the top unde where your pillows would be.

Use diaper pins to pin the corners to the mattress so the sheets and pads stay in place ..

Thank you to Bobbie and Naomi - both of your ideas are good ones. I feel stupid - i never thot of pinning the durn pad or of seaming it down the middle - all I had was cutting it down and re-sewing everything - ugh!! Thanks again, ladies
