  • It certainly is a beautiful home! I dream of a kitchen that big. For my taste it is too bland and tone on tone, I need pops of color, which you can bring in with paint, accessories and decor. Layout and lighting look good. I love the floor too.

Start with the light fixtures. Change the pendants and ceiling fixture and then see how you feel.

paint the cabinets white. and change hardware to something bright and shinny.

I would be so proud to own this kitchen. Can I have it if you don't want it? Only reason I would think of changing it is if somehow it no longer meets my needs like "Darn it I only have four burners and always have five pans to heat up." Or "There's no place for the wine cooler."

If you don't need the wrap around peninsula, think about getting rid of it. I'm sure it's become more than a pain to have to walk around it each time you want something in the kitchen.

Painting the cabinets white - at least the uppers - will also make the space seem much more open. Consider taking some doors off for open shelving or add glass doors to the uppers.

Agreed on switching out the lighting and adding a main "pop" of color.

Perhaps the tile backsplash could be changed to bring in a bit more color. It seems to darken the counter area. If you can change the color of the black appliances, it would also brighten the area, they almost look like blank spots in the beautiful wood. It definitely need some color brought in with accessories and décor as Naomie said.

Load barring walls can be worked with as long as main structure of the wall is not disturbed. I have opened up a kitchen with rounded openings where cabinets are. The kitchen on picther is beautiful but to claustraphobic.

Hmmm...quite a challenge. I would remove some of the cabinets and opt for open shelving. I would remove the upper ones on both sides which would give the appearance of much more space. Move the island out of the area or reposition it. If the kitchen is in close proximity to the dining room, maybe you could consider removing all or part of a wall between them. Please post what you do! Good luck.

Maybe you can barter with a carpenter!?! As for possibly painting the cabinets, try chalk paint and a bit of a rustic look. The farmhouse look is very today and will be for a while...I think!

At present your lovely kitchen is rather monotonal, love the black appliances. What if you painted the cabinets a cream color and then added some pops of color, like cobalt blue, teal, or apple red with your accessories

This is a beautiful kitchen (bones) with great cherry cabinets. What you have not done, is decorate it! Change up the cabinet door pulls. You are in dire need of an accent color. Consider Persimmon! Would go great with the back splash, and cherry. Add decorative items like area, rug, mixer etc. Get some color! See below. This is a classy kitchen as it is - just needs some color.

Im sorry you dont see the beauty in your kitchen, it is already a kitchen most of us would give our right eye for so to speak. Since you have just purchased the house, it is always best to live in your house for at least a year before you make major changes..this tells you what works and gives you time for your house and your style to get to know one another. I would go for the decorating it first...and leave major construction for later unless $$$ is no concern because once you move walls and cabinets..you will be spending $$$ everywhere to get it all back uniform. Good luck in your new home.

YES, this colour is relevant, it is timeless. Please do not paint them you will regret it believe me. I agree with previous talkers, it needs a pop of color which u can do with decor, update the lighting and change the cabinet hardware, but leave the drawer pulls they work well. If in your budget change out the black appliances, they detract from the beauty of your kitchen. If at all possible can you straighten up the peninsular piece and remove the shelf piece from the hallway portion, leave other as is, if you have the space. If not enough room I would remove the peninsular piece and just straighten out the other making a galley style kitchen. This will open it up and make the kitchen easier to work in. You don't need new quartz, what is there works well, though the backsplash is a bit bland. Update with color and other suggestions then live with it for a while, sometime you grow to love the things you wanted to originally change. Good luck, let us know what you do and enjoy your new home.

The built in desk would make a great coffee station or bar area.
