Painting ceramic tile and bake in a oven so color is permenent

Saw a DIY TV program a very long time ago where they painted ceramic tile and then baked them in the oven. The color was permanent, scratch and water resistant. They were used as a kitchen backsplash and could be washed and scrubbed without color coming off. Or would the alcohol paint technique do the same thing? I want something that can be washed and scrubbed and be durable. Thanks.
