You can make a slip cover to go over the headboard and a partial one to cover the foot board. It is hard to give advice without a clear picture of what the bed looks like. Is it one that is like the old rail ones or the newer ones?

padded headboard/ footboard. colorful sheets, quilt, shams, dust ruffle. Will it be used with the head and knees raised?

If the patient has a favorite quilt, spread, afgan or blanket, use that and co-ordinate the other things...shams, etc. to go with the fav! My mom had Alzheimers so I kept pictures of family around the room plus a cd player with her fav. Elvis gospel music to play during the day. Just be sure none of the bedding interferes with the operation of the bed or is in the way of the nurses or aides that care for the patient.

If it's rented, how about wrapping it with colored crepe paper strips or patterened duct tape. If it's a man, pick a manly pattern (like camo!) & get some Duck Dynasty stuff; if it's a woman, you can always add flowers from WalMart held on by the crepe paper strips & make it like a pinata - all sorts of ideas! Have fun! Go by the person's interests & go from there.....If you own it, you can paint it, color-coordinate it to the person's room, add lace for a woman....etc. - just go crazy with it!

I have one too, and when the knees and head are raised, I think a dust ruffle would look bad, as well as get stuck on the exposed springs. I've made a quilt for it, but it still looks like a hospital bed. I should try a fabric slipcover over the head and foot board.

I agree with the slip cover over the headboard; make a blanket/quilt to continue in same print/or contrast and then make a pouch to keep Kleenex, glasses, etc. in and should complete the look with contrasting sheets! good luck and sounds like a fun project....

If painted, wouldn't it scrape off on legs when moving up and down?
