My laminated kitchen cupboards are yellow and dingy, how can I clean?

All cleaning suggestions are good. I wasn't sure if you meant you don't want to paint the cabinets or if you think laminates can't be painted. If it's the latter, just Google 'painting laminate' to find directions. Also, this is hometalk, directions found here, too. Please post a photo when you're done. Good luck. :-)

They CAN be repainted. :D

If any are cracked and peeling, go ahead and peel it off the ones that are already cracked. Just sealer prime them three times with 123 (from hardware store), then paint them along with the rest of the cabinets.

You will need to abrade, lightly sand the plastic to give it a "tooth."

So, start with cleaning them really well to remove any grease. I recommend TSP (use gloves); rinse well.

Then gently electric sand, or hand sand them in the direction that the grain would normally go. Clean that off.

Wipe them down with white rubbing alcohol.

Use XIM (from hardware store) to prime your plastic covered cabinets.

Very lightly sand over the dried primer, before painting and wipe them off.

Buy quality, soft, brushes that are made for acrylic paints.

I recommend PPG/Porter Paints Advantage 900 paint, in semi-gloss sheen. It is very, very durable.

Paint thin coats on, and let each coat dry overnight.

Sand very lightly between each coat.

In the end, once the color has built up sufficiently, you will not need to put a sealing poly coat on.

Paint takes 30 days to fully cure. But you can resume using your kitchen after a week. Make sure when you clean in the future, that you don't spray them with spray cleaners. Just gently clean with soap and water.

IF your weather is wet for very long, then you will need even longer before you use it. Good Luck!
