what is the coating
A damp microfiber cloth run under really hot water should do it.
if you are asking about the vinyl coated wire shelving; take down, place in shower and scrub with a good dishwashing liquid, rinse, dry, reinstall.
If your shelves are like mine, they would be vinyl coated wire shelving and not removable. I cover the clothes beneath with an old sheet then take a damp microfiber cloth and wipe down. When done, I also go over them with a light coat of furniture polish so dusting them later is a breeze.
