What is the best way to strip a varnished door down to the bear wood?

I would like to strip s dark stained/varnished door back to its original state? How is this best achieved? What would be the best preservative to use when I have stripped it back? Thank you.

Use citristrip to strip it. If you like the color of the wood when you are done stripping it you can forgo staining and just go to what you were planning on using as your final top coats. You can use varnish or whatever you want. If it is an outside door, I would recommend using something weather proof like marine grade polyurethane.
