How to refinish the top of a dresser that looks like wood, but isn't

Some of the finish has worn off along the front edge, and I wonder if I can stain it to match, since it's not wood. Also, there are dull spots on the top, that furniture polish doesn't work on. Thanks!

You can get stain pens that will fill it in and would probably be easier to deal with. I have used it with great results. Go to a Lowes or Menards to find best selection of stain stick colors.
You could use gel stain. It goes on top of all types of different finishes and can make things look like wood. I’ve used it with much success

Peel off the veneer (looks like wood) and iron on new veneer
