I live in central Oklahoma when should I cut my rose bushes back?
i live in central Oklahoma and need to know when I should cut my rose bushes back and how much. Thank you
That depends on what perennials
I just cut mine back to nothing ! Did this yesterday... I always panic after I see what I have done..but in the spring? All the plants come back beautifully full and lots of new growth...the size I want...and none of them get ruined by heavy snowfalls. Looks bare now...but later? Great !!
I usually leave them until spring. Especially if they add winter interest-ornamental grasses can look beautiful with snow/frost , plants that produce seed pods or have flowers that go to seed not only look beautiful but can give the wildlife a food source: ballon flowers, coneflowers. Even some annuals like zinnias when left can provide food. Another bonus are the free plants you may get from many of these plants self seeding.
roses should be pruned in the early spring before the new goth emerges, hydrangeas depend on the variety
