I live in a large apt, but not sure how to save my large geranium from my deck for the winter? I also have a curious cat, can I keep this a live inside?

Geraniums need a lot of light so the plant won't winter through well unless you have a window to put it in. What I have done is take some stalks from the plant and put them in a jar with water then put those in a sunny window. The survive so you can plant them in dirt for next spring. Be sure to take off any leaves that would be in the water. Great way to winter them and get new and more plants for spring.

You can make an "indoor greenhouse". Use pvc pipe and pvc corner pcs. Make a tall one to fit over the plant. No need to put a top on. Velcro on heavy plastic for easy watering. Use grow lights in two inexpensive floor lamps (you can find them at Walmart for as cheap as $15). The plastic will keep the cat from the plant.

If it is Very Hardy, Best left Outside...........But You could take cuttings or divide first..........

yes, it may look scraggly by next spring, but it will bounce back when put back outside. Geraniums have a distinctive odor which I don't think your cat be attracted to, so after a few sniffs, kitty will ignore it. I have geraniums that I've overwintered for 15+ years. I do have a leanto greenhouse so they get light but still get scraggly by spring. I get a lot of compliments for my giant geraniums!

Buy or make a terrarium or small greenhouse for it on the veranda as near to the building as possible. Wrap in bubble wrap.

Then try bringing it in or better still take cuttings or divide the plant and try both.

I have had good luck in bringing them in & putting on a table in a sunny window!! But to keep my cat away from digging in the silly thing.... I had to crinkle up tin foil around the dirt and press down to keep cat from pursuing it. Its a hassle, but it worked. The cat was persistent but so was I. I used an animal deterant spray on the tin foil. It didn't like that!!
