How do i fix the handles on my stainless steel pots

by Jean
I bought some pots and pans over 40 years ago. the good news is that they are in great shape-the bad news is that the handles are screwed into the side and they don't get tight any more-is there some kind of goop or rubber tiny washers that would be heat resistant to put between the handle and pot? I've tried the smallest washers I can find, but they are too rigid and don't fit. Thanks

    Dont buy new!!!

If the bolts are not stripped, use Heat Resistant Loctite for the threads on your bolts. Follow directions on the package. Loctite is available at most Home improvement stores and Auto Stores.

I can't answer your question but I do have a suggestion. Take the pot and go to a hardware store either privately owned or reasonably small (like an Ace or True Value). Many of their older employees (so go when school is in session) are retired craftsmen. I bet someone will have an answer for you. Good luck.

I found several internet sites that carry replacement handles/knobs/parts, etc. for cooking pots & pans .

Perhaps you could make your own gaskets by cutting up a silicone cookie baking mat. They are thin and very heat resistant.

My dad used to have a little blister package of 'pot fixers' they were sort of like flat washers that you could add to the screws assembly. for my eye glasses I have used clear nailpolish to try to hold the screws tight ( but tht's a bit flammable i think). However, maybe the little rubbery bits from one of those eyeglass repair kits would help ?

I have never has much success fixing cookware so I would look for a tag sale!

loctite bran for screws and start screws to tight use a "C" clamp to tighten to base then tighten hard. the loctite will keep the screws from backing out, but can be removed a little tougher to start the unscrewing
