Slug pellets are the only thing that has worked long term for me. I spread them around the perimeter of the garden and reapply every 3 weeks .
Place small dish of beer in area. They love it, crawl in and drown.

slug pellets, copperbeer and salt all work well.
Lots of crushed egg shells. Slug can not crawl over the shells.
Do you have hosta in the garden? If so, that is what they are after. Get rid of the hosta and plant loriope because slugs don't eat loriope.
