depends on what kind of stove you have that your trying to clean...gas or electric..stainless steel or the kind that looks like the inside of your oven.
I use a paste of baking soda and enuff water to be moist, and let it sit for as long as needed , it will lift everything right off. The baking soda will start to discolur as it absorbs the grime. and wont scratch surfaces.
Dishwasher works for me.
Simple green on everything but the burner grates. Burner grates require oven clearer - take outside and apply according to directions.
