I have done this many times - run HOT water then pour 1 C of baking soda down the drain and continue with the HOT water for a minute or two
If you don't want to use commercial drain products, you can pour baking soda down there and then pour vinegar down afterwards. The chemical reaction can unclog the drain.
The first thing I always do is use a plastic snake to remove any hair and gunk. Then if its still not draining right, I use Roebic Drain Cleaner (non-caustic & safe for septic systems) that you mix with warm water, put in at bedtime, and then in morning run hot water, and give a plunge if needed.
