Do you mean “perennials” as in perennials or annuals? Mums are considered tender perennials"...in other words it depends on when you plant them. If you plant them in the spring or summer, they will probably come back the following spring. If you plant in fall, they don’t have enough time to establish before winter so they probably won’t come back in the spring.
Milch heavilly. Don’t break off old growth just pile more dead leaves or pine needles over it. In spring, gently uncover and you should see new greenery peeking from the rooths. Gently break off last years dead stems but don‘t remover the mulch until the weather is warmer
There are florist mums and hardy mums. It all depends on what zone you live in if they hardy type of mum would be able to live where you are. Please do a little searching about where you live and what kind of mum you have. Most time if you purchased it from a nursery or a home store they would be hardy. Good luck.:-)
