That really is the only way to match it

WE HA THE SAME PROBLEM. WE HAD AN WROUGHT IRON PIECE MADE. WE PLACED IT SO THAT HALF OF IT WAS ON THE NEW BRICK AND THE OTHER HALF WAS ON THE SIDE OF THE OLD BRICK. IT GAVE A GOOD TRANSITION SO THAT BOTH SIDES WOULD NOT BE SEEN TOGETHER. I WOULD SUGGEST A BLACK WROUGHT IRON PIECE RATHER THAN WHITE SINCE YOU ARE FIGHTING TO TONE DOWN THE WHITE. OUR WENT FOR THE TOP TO THE BOTTOM OF THE BRICK. HOPE THIS WILL GIVE YOU ANOTHER IDEA.

I like the look of painted brick so I would definitely paint it, just make sure the paint is suitable for masonry. Another idea would be to put up trellises and plant vines to disguise the mismatch

I'm making $80 an hour working from home. I was shocked when my neighbour told me she was averaging $120 but I see how it works now. I feel so much freedom now that I'm my own boss. This is what I do... http://ow.ly/KpLQ30g9qgg

A lot of it does match, perhaps you could paint the white bricks one of the colors that is present real frequently in the house bricks. There are a few lighter bricks in the house part, maybe you could leave a few of the white bricks, but tone down the brightness of the white so it is not so obvious. I would love to know why so much white was put on the garage addition when obviously it didn't go with the house bricks. You would think they would at least try to match the older bricks.

Thank you for your suggestion. Yes it is so frustrating. They should have stopped when they realized it was not matching and a mystery to us also why so much white.

Hi Linda. You can just paint some of the bricks on the new addition and then also on the old brick. It would help them blend together better. If you don't like that then you can always paint it all. I would use 2 different colors that complement the brick.

I would suggest Painting it. About the only way I know!! The new addition brick also look larger than the old ones?

Have you contacted the contractor who did this addition and ask for some kind of fix on his part, discount for you to do the fix on his work, any kind of way for them to save face on your job? Contact the local news and show them, see how fast that contractor fixes your addition.

This is a great idea! I hope you do. My husband would rather do the repair, but it would cost MORE money! AND MORE TIME! I would do this!

I would paint the bricks to match on whichever is smaller. I would assume the garage.

I would paint the garage with a translucide paint (paint + glazing medium), with one of the color of the house... This way, you could keep the effect of different shades, but all in the same tone. Good luck!

If i were faced with this problem I would try German smear, on the entire house. I may be mistaken but it looks like there was brick repair work around the window in the photo, the smear would help mask, please post finished product no matter what option you take.

Paint the white bricks matte black.

This would be a great way to change the look without getting into a huge project.

Use a sponge and dab it on. Good luck.

I would just paint the whitish bricks. They stick out loke a sore thumb. I would Aldo put a tall evergreen or plant at the corner of the garage to break Up the brick

  • Heather McKinney Heather McKinney on Oct 27, 2017

I think breaking up the two walls with something (trellis, maybe) or painting the brick are your two best options.

  • Sharon Sharon on Oct 27, 2017

I too would get some masonry stain to stain the brick to be more reddish like the main house, and then get some small cans of paint to remove the excess white bricks by painting some of them brick red, a few black.

Unfortunately you are going to have to paint one, stand back and decide on the next one.

If this is a licensed mason, I would contact him and tell him your unhappy with his job and ask him to correct it. If he doesn't, file a complaint with the state contractor's licensing board, and ask he refund part of the job so you can hire a pro painter. This will be on his record for future potential customers to see.

You could go the route of playing it up. Planters at the corners in the same color as the light bricks could make it a 'focal point'; window boxes and light shutters on the house part to blend them? I'm just thinking it might be easier than painting brick ;)

It might just be a matter of aging. The new brick is just new looking. So maybe wait through the winter to see how it weathers? Also, have you washed the brick on the house? Maybe it's just a bit dirty?

  • Sharon Sharon on Sep 07, 2021

My husband was a mason, you can buy brick dye, Amazon has it. Then I would tone down the white bricks,,,,, way more on the right that don't match the other side. You could use a wire brush on a drill to remove the white paint off some of them, then stain with the brick dye.

If you want the look to flow nicely, I think painting the entire exterior the same color.
