Barnwood/Tin Bathroom Renovation

Our home was built in 1976 and the blue-fixture bathroom badly needed updating! I love "rustic" so barn-wood from a neighbors old shed gave us the walls. A black granite counter-top was added with white sinks and bronze faucets. The front door from Grandma's old house became the mirror, an old hand-cut fence post became the towel rod and an old board from the church's bulldozed outhouse became a wall sculpture! A corrugated tin ceiling and white doors instead of brown were added. Yellow is my accent color so I put daisy arrangements everywhere. My friend painted the bathtub and commode while they were still on my truck, and I added a "picket fence" from barn-wood scraps. Hand-made shutters framed out the window, and we were done! Now I show off my bathroom instead of hoping people won't go in there!

Barn-wood, tin and Formica

We started by tearing out the old bathtub, commode, counter-tops and doors. Brushed nickel light fixture, toilet paper holder, tub faucets and door hooks were sprayed with antique oily bronze spray paint by Rustoleum.

Flowered Picket-Fence Bathtub!

After putting barn-wood half way down the wall we put tin and then where they met we put a smooth-cut stained board to separate the two. Formica in a marbled pattern was put on the adjoining cabinets and behind the commode.

Barn-wood Night-lite

This wall decor over the commode, made from a real out-house board (!) features a push-button LED nite lite inside the quarter moon for a nite light! Add a few vines and some daisies to finish it out.

Grandma's Front Door!

We removed the falling down door from Grandma's old house and sanded it down after putting on paint remover. Paint it again lightly and sand off a few places, clean up the diamond-shaped door knob and back plate. There is a special glue on Amazon for attaching the mirror to the glass. I added 2 small hooks for the hand-towels and mounted it with 8 very sturdy bolts!

Fence Post Towel Rod!

I turned 2 towel rings sideways, drilled them into the concrete block wall and added an old hand-cut fence-post. These towels are just for decoration.

Hand-made shutters, a bucket of daisies and an old curtain finished out this wall.

New doors!

Old brown lauan doors were replaced with bight white.

Tin ceiling!

My living room has rusty tin on the cathedral ceiling but I chose new corrugated tin for this room to add brightness. I also sprayed the air vent silver to match.

Much needed counter-tops!

The last thing we did was add new granite leather-look (not the shiny side) counter-tops and new faucets. Labor was a large expense as we couldn't do it all ourselves, but someone 30 years younger could do this easily!
