White noise Sound machine ,can it be fixed?

I have had this sweet machine for several years. It has finally stopped working. I know I can replace it with many other machines, but I like its brook the best of any,...it is small and packs easily. Does anyone know what would need to be fixed?.?Evidently they are not made anymore,I checked several sources. Sources show pictures, but machines not available.

Hi Bernice, I looked on eBay and Amazon but no luck. So, my advice would be to find local electronics repair shops and give them a call. Get rough estimates and take it from there.

Most small appliances are not meant to be fixed. The cost of repair is more than the cost of buying new. Now you know why we are called the "disposable society". Look on Amazon for a similar item.

    • Bernice H Bernice H on Oct 30, 2017

yup...I did. In fact I ordered one..not crazy about the sounds!but even worse ..it doesn’t work on the battery setting. Huh? They are brand new batteries,so back it goes.😝. You are correct..a disposable society.

Before you 'toss'it, find someone who likes to 'tinker'

      Hi Bernice,

Silver Lining: My husband's a tinkerer. He can fix most anything, which is usually a good thing but it can turn into a bad thing when he can fix a 1977 refrigerator that came with our house in 1992, over and over again! It finally broke last year to where he couldn't fix it (YAY!) but only because the wiring diagram was painted over. If you know a tinkerer or someone that knows electronics, they could probably fix it but someone in the business of doing that will probably charge you more than it's worth to replace it. It can't hurt to ask. Good luck.

Thanks for checking in....absolutely true about charging more than what is worth. We just had to replace a one year old over stove microwave the other owners had installed. When we put it back in while installing new cabinets...it died. The repairman said fixing it was real close in cost to a new one. So sad..a throwaway society. Yet repairmen have to make a living too!

Hi Bernice. My name is Danny. I have an AA Degree in Electronic Technology. I know I could fix your white noise machine. Only thing is, I live in Reno Nevada. Can you tell me what happened and what was the machine doing when it went out?

For sure. I know what you mean. I lived in Redding before I moved to Reno. No I'm not related to the Hinkle's that owned the Hinkle's Market. I received my AA Degree at Shasta College.

I have had my same sound machine for 25 years and use it every night. Several years ago it quit working and I used a can of compressed air and cleaned it thoroughly top and bottom and it has continued to work for me. It's worth a try. Good luck!

Thanks for the post...I have only had 2 of these in over 20 something years. The other was a dome type, bulky for traveling. We sure have gotten our moneys worth, haven’t we?

    Hi Bernice,

I'm in California and there's a chain of stores by the name of Bed Bath & Beyond. They carry the white noise machines and they even carry the Homedics one which I have reaso to believe it to be a descent brand. I bought one just like this one for my husband at Target. I don't know if Target still carries them, but I do know that Bed Bath & Beyone still carry them. My husband loves his. Good luck!

Since the machine runs on batteries (the pkg looks like small hearing aid batteries) I am wondering if the area where the battery is inserted just needs a good cleaning out? Over time, dust, lint, and build up could be impeding the battery connection.

Oh, sorry, I did not see the post explaining this. No problem though. I guess in this case, more than two heads were not really better than one, but we tried. 'Hope you had a happy halloween today.

you can attempt to find the customer service information for the company and see if they have a preferred repair place near you, or they can let you know how to replace it

If you have Internet and a tablet you can listen to the same sounds from Internet ststiond. Cslm, radio yuned, googlr, pandora all have relaxation and nature sound stsyions.

    • Bernice H Bernice H on Nov 01, 2017

Oh I didn’t know that...good to know especially for traveling. I do get pandora!but wonder how to find those sounds.

  • Danny Hinkle Danny Hinkle on Nov 02, 2017

Bernice, I was just thinking about your response from Amazon about it not being in stock and didn't know if they were going to get it back in stock. I had that happen to me before and I just left the product in my list and when it came back in they would let me know. It's like, if no one wants onw why have them in stock. Plus another seller may come on Amazon that has some or even one for sale. Try that and let me know what happens. Just a thought.

Dear Bernice, my advice will be also to find some good repairer or buy a new thing. I know, that some things are very precious for us, but alas they can not stay with us forever!
