How to wallpaper glass sliding closet doors?

I have 18 feet of smoked glass Pax Sliding doors. The closets are wonderful but the dark glass is overwhelming and looks like a wall of plastic along the bedroom wall.....

I have been reading about wallpapering over mirrored sliding doors....need special paste and then wallpaper over the glass....anybody ever done this????

While this might seem to be an easy fix, is not recommended. First of all the glass surface is very flat and slippery. In attempting to get the wallpaper to stay stuck vertically, you will need glue that is compatible with both glass and paper at the same time.

Standard wallpaper backing paste is water activated. The reason why you dip the wallpaper into the water tray first is to activate the paste. Once applied, as you sponge off the excess water, and as the water normally evaporates over time, the paste hardens and becomes more adherent to the wall.

Glue needed to stick to glass is not wallpaper paste. It comes out of the tube already wet, and is made to dry quickly once exposed to air.

If parts of the wallpaper become stuck to the glass before all the air pockets have been flattened out from behind the paper, it will be very difficult to pull off and to reposition without damaging the glass behind. When the paper becomes worn out, discolored, or if you change your mind, it will be next to impossible to remove without scratching or marring the glass. The damage caused to the glass might render it unattractive and quite useless for the surface to function as a mirror in the way it was originally intended.

I understand what you are saying about the mirror being dark, however there may be someone out there who is looking to purchase second hand sliding closet doors. List then on Craigslist, or Kijiji, and then use the money from selling them to purchasing a new set of sliding closet doors that you like.

I'd buy vinyl that just sticks to windows with a spritz of water and a squeege. They come in rolls that are like stained glass or different patterns for privacy.

Hi there...I thought of that...but the smoked glass is so dark and the vinyls seems to be translucent....I wanted to mask the darkness...there's a lot of dark.....thinking about investigating if there's a paste that might stick to the slick surface and wall papering with a textured paper...it would require a lot of paper....be a hefty investment....not sure if it will adhere !

thanks for your input...I appreciate your comments....I'd thought about selling the doors...figured I wouldn't get much for them...so wondered if it would be worth trying something to make the best of what is here . I'll keep thinking!
