I am placing a 3 piece bathroom in my basement. They have drlled a hole in the basement floor to connect to the main drainage in the basement. The existing pipe is metal. They are going to connect pc pipes . This seems like it may be a problem perhaps down the road. Can anyon tell me if there are other options or is this standard?

Wow, you're taking on a massive project heading for failure if not done right. There needs to be a "Y" connection from the base of the main waste stack, then a "C" joint for the toilet in the new line you're installing. Get a professional to install if you don't know what you're doing.

Thank you for your concern.....:-) I would never attempt to do this type of DIY! It is for a professional only but I want to be sure of his taking the right path for the project. He has already shown signs of not showing up to complete the work. I have heard many horror stories and don't want to be one of them.

Wow. That was more information than what you wanted. It is common that at some point drainage pipes are attached to one made of another material. I think you are wondering if it will catch all the sewage around the connection. More importantly is the size of the drains and to make sure that there is proper venting. If the company you are using is certified and you have a building permit, they will have to build it up to code. Don't pay until it is done. Good luck!

Thank you Laura. My concern was truly about mixing the materials. I think it could really be a horror story if I did not have some additional information up front. The contractor is not really into communication but I need to feel comfortable. I will ask about a building permit. I did not see one or it was not shown. Good suggestion, thank you.

Yep. PVC is a standard for plumbing now a days. Wish it was around in the past. Connecting PVC to existing cast iron pipe will pose no problems at all. PVC actually is better because it doesn't rust/corrode, allows water and solids to flow easier, Less chance of blockage due to smooth insides.

PVC is definitely the way you want to go these days.
