How to Spray Paint Light Fixtures

Anyone have any ugly old light fixtures like this in your bathroom? We lived with this one as long as I could take it. But we had a very tight budget when we updated our powder room so I decided to spray paint this light fixture.

First of all, I covered as much of the bathroom as I could with paper and drop cloth. I pointed a fan on me to get some fresh air. There’s an exhaust fan right above the light so I turned it on too. I learned my lesson after spray painting my kitchen door over 10 years ago!

I used Rust-Oleum Metallic in Oil Rubbed Bronze, the same paint I used for these. It just took a couple of light coats.

Let me emphasize LIGHT! Don’t spray on too much at a time or you’ll get drips.

Bikeman wanted me to do a few touches of gold to match the sink faucet. I don’t know… I might go back and add them later.

It was really hard taking pictures of a light fixture! There’s no window in our powder room so there is absolutely NO other light in there.
