A dining room table that had a medium blemish on the top given a whole new look!
Before!
Everyone has to have the before look!
We're about to get busy!
Getting sandy here!
As many other tables start ours was no different than most. This table was an extra table we had at the house it was hardly used. Somehow it had the smallest scratch on the top of it. My husband being the husband that he is decided he could "fix" this small scratch. I pleaded with him to leave it alone! Ya, that didn't happen. Next thing I know he's saying a few choice words and the small scratch is now about 5 inches long. *sigh*. We tried to sell it as is but no one wanted it. So last summer I made use of my teenage son and we began the sanding. We placed it in our downstairs area and propped it up for easy access to stain.
Not quite what I imagined
To start I drew a very simple outline of three water lillies. I didn't get very far before we decided to sell our home. The table had to get put away and I had to concentrate on packing!
A whole new perspective
I have to admit it was hard getting back to it. It took awhile to motivate myself I knew I had a long way to go. Once I turned my attention back to the table it took me a couple of months to get it done. I worked on it in my spare time. (I work full time) to apply the stain I wore gloves and dipped a small rag into it working a little by hand. I continuously rotated between the stains. To get that dementional effect you really have to put some dark shadows I accomplished this with Unicorn Spit's midnight blackness. The highlights are White Ning that helped deepen the depth. For those of you who have never heard of unicorn spit it truly is the greatest product I've come across. It's endless use makes it out of this world! I can't rave enough about it!
Now that's more like it!
After working on it for a bit it really started coming together and I surprised even myself. Yes, I'm nit picky and I work slow but that's ok! For those of you that are not quite the artist you can use a projector to get your image onto your piece of furniture.
Ta Da!!
Ok, I know what you're thinking. There's no way I can do that I can't even draw stick people. I promise you many people on the (Facebook)unicorn spit Q&A felt the same way but they are continuously cranking out some amazing projects. This product is so inspiring to me I can't imagine my life without it anymore. Art is just a matter of patience and time. I hope you'll feel motivated to create your own art! Now aren't you glad hubby "fixed" that scratch?

Beautiful! One question though, did you work the design so that it fits even with the leaf out and if so, how did you accomplish that?

How could anyone not love it? Have you had it appraised? It is so unique I bet it would appraise high.
