The handmade Christmas tree was inspired by an applique tree I saw in Pinterest years ago. With some math and planning, I created my own similar tree that I can proudly display year round. I'm not going to lie - this project was not quick, but I love the completed Christmas tree.
I first saw this applique tree on Pinterest so many years ago that the picture, the listing, and the seller are no longer on the site. But I really loved the look of this tree and wanted to make my own.

So I came up with a plan and broke it down into steps. First, I bought a large cone at the craft store and some wool felt fabric. Then I made a template to cut my felt to cover my cone. The template took some patience, math, and a compass, but I have the full directions and a diagram on my blog.
Next, I started decorating my fabric with needle felted flowers. If you are unfamiliar with needle felting, you can watch a video demonstration of needle felting HERE.

I decorated my tree with felted flowers and embroidery, but this tree could also be decorated in other ways using buttons, beads, basic patchwork, or more elaborate embroidery. Any of these techniques would make a beautiful and unique tree decoration!
When I was done needle felting my flowers, I added a button center to each flower and some simple embroidery.
Then I began wrapping my felt fabric around my tree cone. I used some fabric glue and common pins to hold my fabric in place. I have more complete directions on my blog below.
The last step was to add a dowel and base to my tree. I chose to display my tree in a small decorated bowl with some colorful rocks, but you could just display the tree on the wood base alone.
My finished tree is about 3 feet high, because I used a large cone, but this project could be scaled down to any size. I love displaying this tree at Christmas next to my fireplace, but I'm so proud of it that I keep it out the rest of the year on my side table!
