Chihuahua urinates on my carpet.

My 7 year old chihuahua is mostly housebroken, but she goes to the same area on the carpet and pees. I have tried doggy pads but she goes around or finds a new spot. Is there any solution besides crating her? What can I put on the carpet to make her avoid the carpet or entice her to go on doggy pads? I have tried many expensive products already and at my wits end!

You have to clean thoroughly and completely remove that area of the pee odor. She associates that area as her "pee" area. There a lot of different products you can buy at Home Depot, Amazon. My little rescue dog peed everywhere when we first adopted him. So I learned quickly that small dogs can't hold it for more than 5,6 hrs because they have a small bladder. Your vet might be a good person to ask for advice as well.

  • I had a long informative post, while reading it over the page "refreshed" itself and I lost everything. I have a Chihuahua mix, understand your dilemma. Take him or her out every couple of hours without fail. Mine has a doggy door (3-6 dogs and 6 cats), but she is defiant and lazy. Here are some links, hope parts are helpful!

waterSome time ago we had that same problem. I bought a spray called SHOO!, sprayes the spot and the dog never came back. It's good to spray on furniture legs as well, as it doesn't leave a stain. Vinegar and water also works.

You have to neutralize the area, try natures miracle

The best answer for you may be to give her a place to go... they make a product called a "Potty Patch" with artificial grass (kind of like a cat box for dogs).... if you put it in the spot she likes to go... she may use it instead....

Only a canine psychologist or psychic can tell you for sure...lol.

Buy Natures Miracle. Saturate the carpet and place a kitchen garbage bag over the area and tape it or weigh it down on the edges. Leave it down for a few days because NM breaks down the enzymes of the urine. Then uncover it and let it dry or shampoo it and let it dry. Then spray the area with a dog repellent spray like apple bitter something that your dog won't like. Also, they do have to go out often. I have a little dog too. She needs to go out every couple of hours or she will pee in the house. I've pulled my area rugs up because of this. The most damage she does is pee on a carpet mat, which I can throw in the washing machine. She's not interested in peeing on my wood floors. I only have 1 area rug in my family room, which I close off when we're not in it. I use flor carpet squares in there. Each square can be picked up and washed in the utility sink, should I need to do that. flor.com just in case you never heard of them.

I think a lot of small dogs have this problem. I have a nearly 14 yr old ankle biter, used to have two (sisters) and they would not go outside. I cleaned up after them, then sprayed vinegar on it to take away the urine smell, but no product worked. Any dog that we have had that was medium or large sized no problem. We also have a doggy door for our dogs. When her sister passed, she was real good for almost a year, now she is back to usual, especially now that it is getting cold out. The only thing I can do is clean up after her.

Keep her in a crate and only take her out to do her business. When she does, then reward her, then put her back into the crate. Keep doing this until she is totally housebroken and only does it outside.

Can’t crate her she cries all night and soils the crate. She is a spoiled brat in some things and this is a nonstarter. Thanks for your replay though.

.Hi. Have you had your pup checked out at the vet yet??? This would be my first step. It's really good to rule out any medical problems first. This is what Jackson Galaxy suggests. I know he does cats, but it's still good advice. Your pup could have some kind of urinary infection....after ruling out any medical problems you could then ask your vet for suggestions and help. It could be a behavioral problem too. Either way I wish you the best in figuring out what's going on with your pup!!! Hope this helps!!! (

Diaper might work or put down a wee wee pad in your room. Does she sleep in your bedroom at night? Mine does. I have a little bed for her. She holds it most nights til 6am. We get up that time anyway
