Tires have many uses as planters. We have observed them cut and formed like tulips, frogs, and other creatures, but we wanted to paint ours and use them in our side yard where the ground is rocky and nothing grows there except grass. It was a complete success!
Although our tires were not cute Minions like a friend painted, we did have an idea how to paint them with camouflaged tires. First we got out a set of tires we took off our car and a third tire from another vehicle that were ready for the dump. Rather than have them decompose in a landfill for many years, we decided to make them into a nice planter. Tires should not be used for food because they do leech toxins into the soil inside of them.
I sprayed each old tire with light green, then spot painted it with dark green, light brown, and dark brown. This was done at random with no particular pattern. The best part was, it took no time for each color to dry. By the time I painted each hue all around the tire, it was dry where I started and could immediately start the next tone. Then we filled them with dirt and planted some flowers.
I repeated the process and filled each one with potting soil and flowers. As the flowers grew taller they bloomed and did well in the planter where they would not grow from the ground no matter how many times I replanted and tried to make the soil good.
I failed to get any final photos as the summer came and went, but the plants did very well and we were very pleased. There are so many darling ways to use tires, but this was the easiest way for us to get some green plants near the back of the house where nothing wanted to grow. Now we have a patch of raspberries growing like weeds! The tires made it possible for me to figure out what to plant in the hard ground. If you are not talented enough to make Minions, frogs, or other creatures, you might try bright summer colors and stack the tires 3 tiers high or simply do a camouflage style. Camo is always in style and can be made from any base such as pink camo, purple camo, or what ever you want in your garden.
