Have you ever heard that your home is a reflection of yourself? Your furniture, your flooring, even your layout says something about who you are and how you live. And it starts with home decor, DIY of course. But when a budget is cramping your style, it's hard to feel like you have the freedom to express yourself. Instead of getting discouraged, focus on just one wall. These budget updates can help you turn that wall, and your home, into a completely 'You' space, and they won't take hours of time, piles of tools, or pocket-fulls of cash to complete. You can turn this into an incredible DIY wall decor project! Making a statement starts at home, so what are you waiting for?

1. Add molding and paint

Give your walls a little architectural interest, by attaching inexpensive molding strips in elegant shapes, and then covering them in a fresh coat of paint. Dark colors are a sure way to add a little drama to any room in your house - just make sure that you've got enough natural light to balance out the spectrum.

2. Paint just 2/3 of the wall

A new wall color can only make so much of a difference, but it turns out that giving just 2/3 of your room a bold new hue and leaving (or painting) the top 1/3 white, creates a wild, wonderful look! Make your ceilings appear higher and your walls look more appealing, all without lifting a hammer.

3. Accent one wall with a busy stencil

Accent walls are now a given in many homes, but it's time to add more attraction than just a contrasting color. On top of your solid colored base, add additional flavor with a bold and busy stencil. This DIYer used a deep purple base coat and an electric gold flower flurry to create a jaw-dropping look that you just can't get sick of staring at!

4. Build a wall cover

If for some reason you can't change your walls, here's another way to cover them up that won't leave a mark. Dress large plywood boards in the material of your choice and add decorative details like trim or nailheads. This design will add some texture and depth to your walls, and it's easy to adjust as your style changes.

5. Create an ombre effect

This awesome faded effect is the result of some clever paint mixing and brushed blending. Not only can ombre walls make your ceilings seem to climb higher, they give you a wider range of complimentary colors in your decor. This method is ideal for adding a statment to walls of a smaller room.

6. Attach faux brick panels

Though this option is on the slightly pricier end of the list, it's less than a 1/10 of the cost of laying real brick. Store-bought brick wall panels from your local hardware store don't start off looking this good -- once you buy them, don't be afraid to paint, distress, and otherwise alter your panels to get the look you want.

7. Turn an underwhelming wall into a giant chalkboard

Useful, fun, and much more interesting than a plain, neutral-toned wall, a chalkboard wall has all the allure of a dark accent wall, combined with the function of a giant whiteboard (though it looks much better!). Your kids will love it and so will you, especially when you've got a number to take down or a grocery list to update.
