It sounds like you will have to repair or replace the broken door frame first. Depending on how bad the damage is, that should help the door quite a bit....however, if the door was kicked in hard enough to dent it or bend it, it may not fit into the frame properly afterwards and may have to be replaced as well.

It really sounds like you will have to get a carpenter to repair the frame and perhaps the front door. Was it a burglary? If so, your homeowner's insurance should cover it, but beware they will probably raise your policy rates!

  • Oh my! Not good. First call police. Next call, your insurance agent. Then I would call in the pros, this is not a typical homeowner fix. Your insurance carrier should send someone out same day. Just be safe in the meantime!

did they just break down the door or did they take items out of the house?

good recommendation above. call your insurance agent, brick set onto wood vs. brick set onto concrete block will require different approaches to repair. otherwise, replace the broken frame, make sure to use longer screws anyway. but also consider inserting a strike master to reduce future attempts to break in. might consider a double dead bolt. one which has a key only

In many places, the double dead bolt is a building/fire code violation, because of the danger of people being trapped in an emergency.

The strike is a good place to reinforce, I had one installed that has a rod sticking out the back that fits into a hole drilled in the studs in the wall. Installer told me that important thing is to pair that with a solid core door.

Great Christmas ornaments! You can flip it upside down and paint the cone white. Then cut a red piece of felt and cut it in a circle. Make a small dot in the middle. Then make a single cut from th outside edge to the dot. Overlap the red cut edges until the opening will sit on top of the pinecone(stem is under the felt). That becomes the hat. Use a hot glue gun to hold in place. You can fill the hat with cotton balls if you want to keep the shape Or you can fold it over and glue the point down if you want it to look it to have a more relaxed look. I have used a small wooden bead to make a nose at the edge if the hat. and a white or silver pompom on the point of the hat. I sew a small loop of ribbon on the back of the hat so the front of the face looks at you. Have fun!
