Can I paint over a single light coat of white wash stain?

i have an old mirror frame, it’s been glued back together and I have sanded it, but it still has the dark stain from years gone by. I just did one light white wash stain over it. Not impressed with the white wash stain, can I just paint white paint over it?

Yup you definitely can paint over there! My only worry would be the old stain "bleeding" through white paint so I would use an oil based primer first and then an oil based paint over that.

If you want it white washed you would have to remove the stain first with a stripper that says it removes stain on the front of the can.... not Citristrip.

Yes why not. Try a Satin finish.....

Before any refinish, it would be better to seal the wood with a coat of shellac to prevent bleed.

Absolutely and easily done. Use a good quality paint, one that is a paint and primer combo would be my choice, then paint. A mini paint roller would eliminate the issue of brush marks if you don’t like them

Try gold metallic paint! That would look fantastic. Rub it on over the rustic black and give us a look.

I would use Kilz, latex. That solves a lot of problems like these.

You need a primer with a stain blocker in it. Behr has a really good one and I believe you can buy it in quart size.
