Ugly tiled bathroom needs help!

We have an old guest bathroom that has completely tiled walls from floor to ceiling. Instead of removing the tiles, is it possible to install shiplap or wood over the tile? If not, does anyone have a good, inexpensive way we can modernize this mess? It's a small bathroom but hideous with white and pink tiles. Help!

Hi Nancy, yup you could definitely just go right over them (if they're in good shape). You can use furring strips on the walls (thin pieces of wood that will create studs for you to attach to) and then you can literally attach whatever you like to that but you will be losing a little bit of square footage. Is it not possible to paint the tile or is just too hideous?
