Painting textured walls and next to celeings

I'm trying to paint over dark brown walls and ceilings that are textured. Trying to get close to the edges.but, wow! The former owner slopped paint everywhere! I'm about crying trying to get close enough to cover one or the other. Help please!

I use a spackle knife or towel to get good clean crisp edges. Here are examples, my stuff is ancient and crusty . . .

Use painters tape along the edges for a clean transition.
I put up textured paint in a small bathroom and it is not problem. We applied the texture compound and the paint the same way.
The first step is to "prepare to paint!"
Get on the ladder and inspect every inch of where the wall and ceiling/molding meets. Using a putty knife (which is not actually a knife but a flat tool), make sure there is a small grove where the texture ends and the ceiling starts.
Tape off the ceiling/molding or whatever this wall comes in contact with. Unless you tape off the adjoining section, you will never be happy with it.
Also, the darker the color, the more noticeable the uneven edges.
Buy a small stiff paint brush . Cut off the bristles about half way down.
DO NOT use it as a paint brush but as a "dabber"! Hold your brush parallel to the ceiling (that would be straight on toward the wall) and dab.
I happen to have artist brushes and I use one of the white bristle stiff brushes.
This will be tedious so be patient.
The quickest and easiest way to do this is to either remove existing crown molding and paint to within 1/2" of the ceiling and then re-install the molding.
If you don't have molding, paint within 1/2" of ceiling and put some up!
P.S. Do not load a brush heavily with paint when approaching tedious areas!!!
I totally understand! I just went thru the same thing, our previous owners were messy and colorblind, lol. To add insult to injury we have a popcorn ceiling that I hate! I used a metal putty knife and ran it along the wall where the ceiling and wall meet. This really gives you a good line to follow and helps help your brush where you want it. Thankfully I love cutting in and have become pretty good at it.
