Looking for updating ceiling tile ideas

Our laundry room has those awful old soft ceiling tiles. Some have water stains on. Looking for ways to cover them up. I'm sure I can use killz for the water stains, but other than painting, any ideas covering them?

Hi Carol. You can try to cover them up with contact paper. I am just not sure how well it would stick.
You can use wallpaper but you will need to use a stronger glue than using the prepasted backing as it will not stick well to the tiles.
I vote for paint. Use white paint and stencils. What a fun project!

How about using Mod Podge? Fabric or pretty paper napkins or scrap book paper - even wrapping paper.
I was thinking of checking the RE-store for some cheap wallpaper.
Get rid of them! They're usually only held up by staples or small nails at worst. Then, you can install drywall, paneling, tongue and groove, etc. I like the tongue and groove option. It's fairly inexpensive and can be done by one person. Just make sure you've got all nails/staples out first and that the floor/ceiling joists you're nailing to are flush; otherwise, it'll look wavy. If necessary, you may need to shim and use furring strips (1x2s, 3s, or 4s). A string line will help you see if you'll need to shim.
